Methane Capture from Landfills
We have experience in implementing technology to characterize, recover, and control methane from solid waste landfills. These projects involve converting methane to carbon dioxide by flaring or by use as a fuel in engines and generators to produce electricity. We have demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of efficient active methane extraction systems, emission control devices, thermal destruction systems, and energy recovery technologies.
Methane Capture from Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment
International leaders in industrial wastewater management, our professionals have completed numerous wastewater projects in 25 countries from conceptual and process design of wastewater treatment facilities to detailed design, start-up, and operation. We have particular expertise implementing wastewater treatment technologies, including anaerobic reactors to treat high-strength wastewaters from food, beverage, agricultural, and petrochemical sources. These processes typically result in the generation of methane, which can be captured and utilized for process heating or energy generation.
Methane Capture from Coal Mines
Methane can be obtained from coal seams in a concentrated form, for example from virgin coal beds, from well-sealed abandoned mines, or from undisturbed mines prior to mining. Our personnel have been involved in a number of high-profile coal mining and mineral processing projects for clients worldwide. To enhance our services in the coal mine methane area, we have teamed with Northwest Fuel development, a U.S. firm specializing in the utilization of coal mine methane.
Nitrous Oxide Abatement
A by-product of the production of nitric acid, nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of 310 (compared with 1 for carbon dioxide). CarbonVentures is developing nitrous oxide abatement projects through the installation of state-of-the-art catalyst technology that converts nitrous oxide into its constituents, nitrogen and oxygen.
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Our personnel have extensive experience in developing renewable energy projects using our energy technology expertise to effect improvements in energy efficiency through use of alternative fuels or more efficient combustion systems that result in reductions in GHG emissions.
Carbon Sequestration
CarbonVentures supports its clients on carbon sequestration projects, including land-use related projects, in particular from sustainable forestry and the use of storage in underground geological formations.
